a music video for the moment

august 2017

A music video created for musician friend Dan O’Rourke in response to the 2016 presidential election.

I love doing collage work, and this project gave me the opportunity to bring a collage to life. The song cynically reflects on the poisonous brew cooked up by American politicians and served to the public, generation after generation. So I focused the visuals on an unsupervised younger generation, glued to the tv and drinking up the brew.

The video features equal criticism of both sides of the political aisle (Dan’s insistence, not mine) but every politician is shown in “performance” mode. I tried to find outtakes, pre-rolls, and politicians “in character” at some point in their career. It wasn’t too hard to find… it’s all a performance after all, right?

Lots of cool AE tricks were used for this project.

For example, I ran some Trump video through the face tracker, then linked the tracking points to corner pin distortions… the result, Mr. Big Mouth
