bringing the outdoors inside

The Adirondacks are among the most beautiful natural landscapes in the country. Breathtaking mountain vistas. Endless expanses of clouds and sky. But how do you celebrate such a place in a museum environment, when media will always pale in comparison to the real thing just outside the building?

The answer is a very large screen.

The 40-foot wide panoramic show Wilderness Stories welcomes visitors to the Adirondack Museum and tells the story of the landscape and the people who call it home.

the nitty gritty

My role on the project was to composite each shot to fill the ultra wide 6500px frame. The RLMG team shot original footage at 4K resolution. Each camera setup required the capturing of blank video slates of the landscape to the left and right of the main subject which would be used as “wings” to pad the sides of the frame. Check out the breakdown animations of a few select shots.

A higher res version of these breakdowns
can be seen here.
